Dress for success

A modest makeover could make the difference in landing a job. That was one of the lessons for Fanshawe College students as their annual career week wrapped up yesterday.

The extreme job search makeover, held yesterday at the London campus, had a fashion show format demonstrating the casual before attire that does not score points at job interviews and the smart after look that can land a job.

Doug Millar, manager of career services for Fanshawe said it was a "wake-up call" to students about what employers expect.

"It's a small difference but it's an important difference in moving from being a student to being a worker," he said.

On Tuesday, Fanshawe's career fair drew about 2,000 students who turned to scout job prospects with about 120 employers and exhibitors.

On Thursday, a session on entrepreneurship was held in partnership with the London Small Business Centre.

"Starting your own business is not often the first choice, but it is often the best choice," said Millar.
