Melissa Maveal helps people conquer their fashion fears.

"An entrepreneur must embrace every possible advantage to advance her or his business," image specialist Melissa Maveal says.

Through her company, Help Dress Me (www.helpdressme.ca), Maveal works as image consultant, personal shopper and wardrobe stylist. Her services are offered to anyone who wants to improve their look, from young ladies to corporate executives to seniors.

A very creative and outgoing person, Maveal says fashion has always been her passion. "I saw market demand for a personal shopping and image consulting service that caters to under-served groups, such as young women and seniors," she says.

For example, Maveal's "shopping aid" service is targeted to seniors and individuals who are physically unable to shop for wardrobe, cosmetics, groceries and anything else they may need. "I try to format my services to each individual's lifestyle and needs," she says.

Help Dress Me also stands apart from other image consultants by offering affordable services starting at just $140. For people who would rather learn in groups, the company conducts image seminars about dressing for success, wardrobe management, working with colours, and fashion and beauty tips.

Maveal has learned a few lessons as she's built her young company. "Always look for new ways to network and promote your business," she advises. "Word of mouth is a very valuable and affordable promotional tool."

Realizing that a new entrepreneur can't possibly know it all, Maveal has also learned the importance of asking for help. "Don't be afraid to ask for advice and guidance," she says. "I was so surprised at the support, information and help I received from friends, family and acquaintances whenever I reached out.

"It's nice to know that most people around you are genuinely interested in seeing you succeed with your new small business."
