The word wizard

When it comes to Internet marketing, the pen is truly mightier than the sword. "I know how to use words to get traffic to a website," says entrepreneur Gerry Black.

Writer Gerry Black uses words to boost website traffic.

Through his company, Relax Communications (www.gerryblackcopywriter.com), Black generates website traffic for independent professionals and small companies.

"I create web content that is search engine friendly but also serves the needs of people visiting the website," he says. "My job is to deliver a steady online stream of qualified sales prospects to my clients using the right words in the right structure."

Black's business serves up a very specialized skill set that combines copywriting with Internet marketing. "I have a journalism degree and have always enjoyed writing," he says. "I began copywriting to help entrepreneurs to maximize the effectiveness of their marketing efforts."

With his understanding of search engine optimization, keywords, Google ads and marketing communications, Black loves to draw surfers into client websites where his compelling copy helps to convert visitor traffic into selling opportunities.

"Too many small business owners focus on how their site looks rather than how it performs," he says. "I wanted to use my skills to help other entrepreneurs to boost online results because that's the name of the game."

In business for eight years, Black says he loves making a difference in the fortunes of his clients. For him, the only negative side of entrepreneurship is working alone. "Writers usually work solo, which flies in the face of my natural inclinations."

Black's advice for startups is to develop a positive outlook. "Your attitude determines your altitude," he says. "Running a business is fraught with challenges, but you can decide how you will react to any situation."

His future plans include packaging and selling his specialized website marketing expertise so that he can help a larger number of small business owners.
